Village Folk Wins Community Award

Whoo-hoo! We are very excited to announce that we have won an award!

Village Folk has been awarded ‘Event of the Year’ for our The Bar-Steward Sons of Val Doonican show, on Saturday 7th March 2020, at Melbourne Assembly Rooms. We were nominated in the local Derbyshire ‘MELs Awards’ in the Arts category, spanning events between 2019 to 2020.

All of us at Village Folk are chuffed to bits and we’d just like to say a huge thank you to Scott Doonican, Alan and Björn from the band and their crew Claire and Amanda and to all those who were involved in making the gig such an amazing and memorable night, including our very fabulous audience!

Here’s what the band’s frontman, Scott Doonican said, after this brilliant gig... Melbourne not only takes the crown for the best band show of 2020 so far, but also has set what Alan described as a 'gold standard' for those kind of shows (probably ever). I can't remember another time where I walked off stage with SUCH a sore face from laughing at Björn and Alan (from us just enjoying ourselves). Quite simply put, THAT was incendiary. Full credit to Village Folk who certainly knew how to make a band feel truly WELCOME, our fabulously attentive audience and Claire and Amanda who bossed it on sound desk and merch, shit raffle and photography respectively. That was magic.” - Scott Doonican Sat 7 March 2020.

We wish to dedicate our MELs Best Event Award 2020 to the memory of the late, great, Mick Peat. Mick was a fantastic Derbyshire singer and musician, he was also a great champion, inspiration and promoter within the Derbyshire folk scene and beyond, for many years. He was a great supporter of our events and as a co-director of Derby Folk Festival he invited us to become a regular part of the festival, curating our own ‘Clubrooms’ stage over the past few years.
