Whoo-hoo! We are very excited to announce that we have won an award!

Village Folk has been awarded ‘Event of the Year’ for our The Bar-Steward Sons of Val Doonican show, on Saturday 7th March 2020, at Melbourne Assembly Rooms. We were nominated in the local Derbyshire ‘MELs Awards’ in the Arts category, spanning events between 2019 to 2020.

All of us at Village Folk are chuffed to bits and we’d just like to say a huge thank you to Scott Doonican, Alan and Björn from the band and their crew Claire and Amanda and to all those who were involved in making the gig such an amazing and memorable night, including our very fabulous audience!

Here’s what the band’s frontman, Scott Doonican said, after this brilliant gig... “Melbourne not only takes the crown for the best band show of 2020 so far, but also has set what Alan described as a 'gold standard' for those kind of shows (probably ever). I can't remember another time where I walked off stage with SUCH a sore face from laughing at Björn and Alan (from us just enjoying ourselves). Quite simply put, THAT was incendiary. Full credit to Village Folk who certainly knew how to make a band feel truly WELCOME, our fabulously attentive audience and Claire and Amanda who bossed it on sound desk and merch, shit raffle and photography respectively. That was magic.” - Scott Doonican Sat 7 March 2020.

We wish to dedicate our MELs Best Event Award 2020 to the memory of the late, great, Mick Peat. Mick was a fantastic Derbyshire singer and musician, he was also a great champion, inspiration and promoter within the Derbyshire folk scene and beyond, for many years. He was a great supporter of our events and as a co-director of Derby Folk Festival he invited us to become a regular part of the festival, curating our own ‘Clubrooms’ stage over the past few years.

We are so very sorry to hear that our wonderful friend Mick Peat has sadly passed away after a short illness.

Mick always welcomed us with open arms and a big smile. He was always encouraging and interested in our music events and supported us with his words of wisdom - offering us sound advice and then would go on to tell us that what we were doing was “absolutely superb!”.

Being invited by Mick Peat and Bob Rushton to be involved with Derby Folk Festival over the past few years, has given us some very special memories indeed. We send all of our love, thoughts and prayers to his wife Celia and their family and to all their many friends in their extended ‘Folk’ family far and wide.

Rest in peace Mick - you will always be “absolutely superb!” to us.

The Village Folk Team X

Hi Folks, we know this is not unexpected, but all of us at Village Folk are really saddened that we have to announce that our shows for the remainder of this year have been cancelled. To explain our current position, we have now taken the decision to put our monthly Village Folk gigs at Melbourne Assembly Rooms, on hold for the foreseeable future, until it is safe and viable for us to continue - as you will no doubt understand that the current situation is, for us, an unsustainable one. We really do hope that we can at some point, reschedule dates in the future, for these artists that we were all looking forward to seeing and for all of us to get together for more fantastic times of fabulous live music!

Many of you have previously asked us to transfer cancelled gig tickets to our next available shows and we thank you for being so very generous and supportive, without you all we just cannot put on our monthly gigs! But as we do not know when our next shows will happen, we are in the process of contacting all ticket holders to offer you a full refund.

We’d like to thank everyone who has previously bought a ticket for one of our gigs in the past and we really value your continued support! Take care and stay safe The Village Folk Team X
